2025 Letter to Madden Charities Donors

Friends and Supporters,

We are excited about our partnerships and the work being done through Madden Charities and The John Madden Foundation. We greatly value your support and are looking forward to new opportunities and partnerships in 2026. We deeply believe in our work and hope you see that the values of John Madden and the Madden Family are being advanced. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your trust and generosity. We hope your holidays are filled with peace and love, and wish a happy, healthy 2026 for all.

Madden Scholars Program at Cal Poly

In 2021, Madden Charities initiated a $1,000,000 partnership with Cal Poly, providing five-year scholar-ships to five underprivileged Bay Area high school graduates annually. As of this fall, a total of 21 students are pursuing their educations at Cal Poly on Madden scholarships. This year, we celebrated our first graduating class of Madden Scholars, and are pleased to have assisted them in the pursuit of their goals.

College Track Oakland

In 2023, we embarked on a transformative 5-year, $800,000 partnership with College Track Oakland, an organization dedicated to empowering students in the Oakland area facing multiple barriers to achieving a college education. The College Track program provides opportunities and options to these students over a 10-year commitment, beginning in their freshman year of high school and extending two years beyond college graduation.

College Track provided us with a mid-year update, reporting that our support has helped 271 high school scholars, 295 college scholars, and 387 program alumni. Among these students, 99% identify as people of color, 95% are on track to be first-generation college graduates, and 90% come from low households.

John Madden Football Center

Construction of the John Madden Football Center is almost complete, with the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony planned for June. The opening of the center will coincide with the recent hiring of new head football coach Tim Skipper. Coach Skipper comes to Cal Poly fresh off his successful stint as UCLA’s interim head coach. For years John wanted the football program to have a place they could call their own. With the completion of the JMFC, that day will have arrived, and it will aid in recruitment, and provide the state-of-the-art facility that Cal Poly football players and coaches have long deserved.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help

Madden Charities is proud to support Our Lady of Perpetual Help where John attended Elementary school. We provide financial assistance to young students and their families, many of whom could not otherwise attend. Every year we receive many heartfelt thank-you notes from the students, and would invite you to take a minute to read some of them on our website.

“Thank you for connecting College Track with Cal Poly. We had an energizing conversation with President Armstrong, and we left inspired by the possibilities. I’m grateful for your belief in this work and for your continued partnership. We will keep you posted as plans take shape.”

College of San Mateo

We are thrilled to announce a new partnership with the College of San Mateo football program. John attended CSM before transferring to Cal Poly and is honored in their Hall of Fame. The program has a long, proud history of reshaping lives, and excellence on the football field which included a National Championship in 2024. Recently, budget cuts threatened to eliminate several coaching positions. We stepped in to ensure that these vital coaching positions were maintained. The team is made up of roughly 120 studentathletes, each with their own unique path that landed them at CSM. We believe in coach Tim Tulloch, and the values he instills in his student athletes, and the comprehensive program he provides in the classroom and on the field alike.

Fighter’s Heaven

Shortly after the passing of Muhammad Ali the Madden Family purchased Ali’s longtime training camp in Deer Lake, Pennsylvania. The camp has been fully restored and stands as a legacy to the life and career of Muhamad Ali. Madden Charities charters buses to bring school groups to visit the historic site. On these field trips, students are taken on a tour of the camp where they learn about Ali’s life inside and outside the ring. During their visit, they enjoy pizza from a local pizzeria, and sometimes even get to meet famous boxing legends like former champion Tim Witherspoon.
